Baptism is strictly a New Testament practice that was instituted with Jesus. The purpose of Baptism is the remission of sin. Sin has divided the Kingdom of God since the fall in the Garden of Eden. Jesus told his disciples to Go, Make, Baptize, and Teach. With this, Jesus more broadly opened the door of Salvation to those who wished to be grafted into the vine of Judaism with the understanding that Baptism involves a solid commitment to the goal of the salvation of the followers of the Lamb. Baptism is not a requirement of salvation. Baptism is a statement of Total Commitment to the purpose of the Holy God.
